THE ACCIDENTAL MUSICIAN – AYUSHMANN KHURRANA

Ayushmann Khurrana has always been one with music, in his own words, music is in his genes… but little did this young boy from Chandigarh know, that the hobby he dabbled in on the side, would establish him as one of the best known musical talents of this decade. Ayushmann is one of the only actors in Bollywood who dedicatedly devotes time to music unlike Hollywood where many A-listers like Johnny Depp and Ryan Gosling pursue their musical passion by playing in bands and performing live.Ayushmann’s earliest influences came from home his grandmother sang in a gurudwara and his dad played the flute. Though the actor was trained in classical music in his childhood and was a part of his school choir he sang only for himself and his friends and never took it very seriously as he was always inclined towards acting. Jamming is second nature to him however never did this VJ turned actor ever think that one day he would win awards for Best musician and best singer that too against singers like Sonu Nigam and Arijit Singh.

The popularity of ‘Pani da rang’ from the soundtrack ‘Vicky Donor’ however cemented his identity as a singer and a musician. It was only after ‘Pani da rang’ that the young actor, surprised by its tremendous success decided to start training again and explore his musical talents in the industry.

A purist at heart Ayushmann’s inherent taste in music comes from Sufi songs Ghazals and classical music. His latest three singles ‘O heeriye’, ‘Mitti di khusboo’ and ‘Yahi hoon main’ have gained much appreciation and have established his status in the world of music.

Even though his musical career has taken off the versatile actor remains committed to his acting career and has proven his acting chops time and again with movies such as the national award winning movie ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’.

Here’s hoping to hear some more lilting melodies from the Accidental Musician
